Autism Spectrum and Asperger’s Disorder
Known as pervasive developmental disorders, children with Asperger’s and Autism Spectrum Disorders exhibit patterns of social and communication problems, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. Many have heightened sensitivity touch, loud sounds, bright lights, and other bothersome sensory experiences.
In Autism, children may exhibit language delays and cognitive delays are also common. PsychBreak’s staff work primarily with verbal children on the PDD spectrum in the realm of social and emotional adjustment. We work with parents and teachers to help coordinate developmentally appropriate routines that assist clients with building autonomy.
PsychBreak also runs social skills groups for children who have a diagnosis or traits of Asperger’s Disorder or mild Autism.
